Focus are like a one stop shop. They get all the facts around a claim, often uncover damage which wasn’t previously identified, bring together all the technical aspects, assemble detailed quotes, and put together the reporting required to substantiate a claim.

I have three rental properties that were affected by the Christchurch earthquakes. One was quite badly damaged and a friend, who was my tenant and also works in the insurance industry, advised me to talk to Focus. I’m so grateful that she did because, quite frankly, I was getting shafted!
I had the initial work done by someone who was a Masterbuilder. I thought that meant he would do the job properly but I was wrong. The scary thing is that, if I hadn’t got Focus on the case, I would only have found out there was an issue when I went to sell the property some time in the future.
They took the project over, had it assessed, and ultimately, thanks to them, settled for an amount that was almost ten times more than what I was originally offered!
The Focus guys did such a fantastic job for me I’ve now engaged them to work on my other two properties including one which is a botched repair.
As an absentee owner, I can’t be on site very often, and I’ve already experienced first hand what can happen when you take the so-called experts at face value. But I know now that I can trust Focus to get the job done. They know the people they’re dealing with and only pick the right ones to work on any particular job, so you know the fit will be good and everyone will work as a team.
They’re not over the top with their fees either, and I certainly got them back with what I saved … plus plus!
Looking back I realise I struggled on for five years without a successful result, then Focus got one for me in less than a year.
I had already worked successfully with Focus on behalf of many of my clients, and had never had one bad report back from any of them. So when it came time for major refurbishment on my own property, they were the obvious choice.
We wanted someone independent to manage our building programme because we didn’t have time ourselves and the property, which is a holiday home, is quite a long way from where we live.
But we never felt like distance was an issue because Focus kept us up to date at all times - we never had to chase them at all.
I think another reason why we had such a fantastic result was because they were able to steer us towards us a great builder and they all worked really well together, that made a big difference.
My wife had a lot of good ideas on what she wanted to achieve with the property. She took these to Focus, who listened carefully to what she wanted, took these ideas forward to the next level, and implemented them very successfully for her.
Don’t ask me what they could have done better, because I honestly can’t think of anything!

CONTACT USTo say our project is a large and complex one is definitely an understatement! Not only are we undertaking a complete refurbishment of the Retirement Village but we are also developing a new Hospital and Memory Support Unit, plus several Independent Living Units as well. And all this is happening while our residents continue to live in the facility.
Construction work is extremely invasive and noisy, and we need to know all work carried out is of the highest quality, while ensuring that there is as little disruption as possible for our residents. This is almost an impossible task which requires meticulous planning and direction, great tradespeople, and very good communication from all involved.
Choosing Focus as our Project Managers for the entire project was a decision made by our Managing Director based on their reputation. But as the person who works closest with them, I’m so glad he did.
Although we are a retirement village we are quite unique in the way we operate, providing what is more like a five star hotel service to our clients. For us it’s not good enough to just have someone who is technically adept, they also need the compassion required to understand the importance of working around the well being of the residents and the impact that the refurbishment work is having on them.
Nathan is our main contact at Focus. He and I meet twice a week, sometimes even more frequently. His communication, forward planning and attention to detail are superb. He is very pedantic about how the services are being delivered, liaises extremely well with the contractors and is closely involved with every stage of the project. But at all times, he has great concern about the impact of what he is doing on the clients.
We still have a long way to go but several of the rooms have already been completed and everyone involved has done a great job. Most importantly, our residents are very happy with their new rooms.
