Focus initially scoped the earthquake damage and obtained specialist sub-contractor pricing across various trades for negotiation and subsequent resolution with EQC. Once settlement with EQC was reached, Focus worked with the Body Corporate’s insurer to negotiate and agree a full and final settlement. Work then moved to project-managing the design and associated repair strategy to enable a building consent application to be lodged. A main contractor was then engaged and work commenced on site in August 2018.

The centrally located building consists of 29 units over four levels including underground car-parking and a central courtyard. The project naturally involves multiple affected parties (each unit is individually owned) and stakeholder management is central to the success of this project.

Works to be completed include structural strengthening to +67% NBS with inclusion of reinforced concrete shear walls, structural steel x-bracing and k-bracing. Block work and precast concrete crack injection work is also being undertaken. In addition to the earthquake repair and strengthening, cosmetic repairs to many units are also being managed as part of the work.
