Focus Clients Take Supreme Award at House of the Year
We’re delighted to announce that one of our clients has won the Supreme Award in the Renovation Category in the Marlborough/Nelson/West Coast 2018 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards. We acted as the Client Representative, Project Managers and Contract Managers for the project, working closely with both the client and the building company, Dan Anderson Building.
This was a major renovation which completely transformed the three-level holiday home into a chalet-like haven. The owners lived several hours drive away, and the magnificent hillside setting created its own set of engineering challenges, but despite these issues the build went extremely smoothly.
The clients, who are understandably delighted with the win, believe the smoothness of the project was due to a great team. “ We wanted someone independent to manage our building programme because we didn’t have time ourselves and the property is quite a long way from where we live. But we never felt like distance was an issue because Focus kept us up to date at all times - we never had to chase them at all. We just sat back and let them take care of everything.”
I think another reason why we had such a fantastic result was because they were able to steer us towards a great builder and they worked really well together. Don’t ask me what they could have done better, because I honestly can’t think of anything ! ”
Focus wishes to congratulate Dan and his team at Dan Anderson Building for this highly deserved award. We are extremely proud to have been associated with this great project.
Opened up to create a flowing kitchen/living/dining area, the first floor is now a lively entertaining hub. A fitting addition, the feature wood-burning fireplace helps the home stay toasty. Downstairs, a self-contained two-bedroom apartment replaces the home’s original garage, making for a wonderful retreat for couples, guests or wider family. The upper level has been generously extended to accommodate the master suite and two private deck areas with water views. While existing flooring and exterior framing were retained to preserve the home’s original character, structural steel beams and posts were installed to support cantilevered decking. All three levels of this large home now have decks, allowing the owners to delight in the great outdoors in covered comfort at the height of their choosing.
